Panama City, 7 January (EFE).- Panama’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Janaina Tewaney Mencomo, will begin a visit to India this Sunday with the main objective of “strengthening the cooperation agenda”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported this Saturday.
At the invitation of the Government of India, Tewaney will attend the 17th Pravas Bharatiya Divas Conference 2023, which will focus on Latin America and include the Presidents of Suriname, Chan Santokhi, and of Guyana, Irfaan Ali, as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama, “All of Native American descent,” said a statement from the State Department.
This conference is “part of the (Indian) government’s efforts to unite the diaspora for the country’s development” and will feature special guests such as Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi; the President of that country, Draupadi Murmu, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
Official information added that Tewaney will hold meetings with the Indian Foreign Minister and with the Presidents of Suriname and Guyana.
During her visit to India, the Panamanian Foreign Minister will “meet with senior executives from Exim Bank, Excel Entertainment, Reliance and CEOs of key companies linked to the merchant shipping industry.”
“He will also attend the Voices of the South Summit, a priority of the Global South: ‘Ensuring an enabling environment’ being hosted by the Government of India as part of its G20 Presidency.”
The Panamanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out that “India is a priority partner in Panama’s cooperation agenda, with which we promote knowledge transfer through cooperation agreements between both nations, which will promote high-level exchanges.”
Tewaney will return to Panama on January 13th.
