Bayreuth Festival: Procedure stopped

The Public Prosecutor closed the case on suspicion of sexual harassment at the Bayreuth Festival. The announcement was made by the responsible authority of the dpa. Thus, it was determined by the complaints of four employees, that the process had been directed against a suspect and against an unknown person.

It was “a very minor harassment without any consequences at the lowest level of criminal responsibility,” he said. “All four injured parties have no interest in criminal prosecution and have refrained from filing a criminal complaint. In those circumstances, there was no public interest in the prosecution.”

The preliminary investigation was launched ex officio in the summer due to media coverage, explained the Bayreuth public prosecutor at the time. Shortly before the start of the festival in July, women anonymously described sexual assaults to the “Nordbayerischer Kurier”. Festival director Katharina Wagner confirmed that she herself was affected.
