War in Ukraine: London scraps all tariffs on Ukrainian products

This measure, announced on Monday, particularly affects canned barley, honey, poultry and tomatoes exported from Ukraine to the United Kingdom.

The UK on Monday announced it would scrap all tariffs on Ukrainian products and ban the export of certain sensitive technologies to Russia in a bid to help Kyiv deal with the Russian invasion. “Duties on all goods imported from Ukraine will now be reduced to zero and all quotas removed,” the UK government said in a statement.

This measure corresponds to a direct request from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the statement said. It particularly affects barley, honey, poultry and canned tomatoes exported from Ukraine to the UK.

Ban on the export of certain products and technologies to Russia

“The UK will continue to do everything in its power to support Ukraine’s fight against Putin’s brutal and unprovoked invasion and to help ensure the long-term security and prosperity of Ukraine and its people,” International Trade Secretary Anne said -Marie Trevelyan in the statement.

The UK has also banned the export to Russia of certain products and technology that it “could use to repress the heroic people of Ukraine,” particularly communications wiretapping and surveillance devices.

“This will close any existing loopholes to ensure Russia does not buy these products from the UK,” the UK statement said.

The British government last week expanded its list of trade sanctions, banning imports of silver, wood products and caviar and increasing tariffs by 35 percentage points on certain products from Russia and its ally Belarus, notably diamonds and rubber.

London claims to have sanctioned more than 1,400 people and companies linked to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s regime since the start of the war in Ukraine.
