The Jaguars came into play on Saturday night on a four-game winning streak and they were favored to stay going against a stumbling Titans team, but the first three quarters didn’t fare so well.
Tennessee took an early 10-0 lead and the Jaguars’ offense failed to catch fire in the second half. Two trips to the red zone ended in field goals and the Titans looked like they could be poised to clinch a division title before Jacksonville’s defense finally turned the tide. After an early field goal, the Titans threw an interception, jabbed twice, and then made another turnover that eventually put the Jaguars ahead.
Jaguars safety Rayshawn Jenkins forced quarterback Josh Dobbs to fumble and Josh Allen returned the ball for a touchdown that gave the Jaguars a 20-16 win. After the game, head coach Doug Pederson said the road to victory was similar to the team’s 2-6 to the division title.
“Tonight’s game is kind of symbolic of our season,” Pederson said of the Florida Times-Union’s Gene Frenette. “There were some fights. There were some ups, some downs, but in the end we had the win.”
They’ll likely need to be sharper offensively next week if they’re to beat a team with more firepower than the Titans had to offer, but defensive work in the second half gave them the chance to do so.
