The Ministry of Women of Paraguay provided more than 126,000 services

Asunción, January 8 (Prensa Latina) The Paraguayan Women’s Ministry provided more than 126,000 services to about 44,000 female victims of human trafficking, domestic and family violence and other crimes in 2022, the ministry reported today.

A total of 126,490 complaints and inquiries were received by the various service points such as the General Directorate for Combating Trafficking in Women and the 137 “SOS MUJER” hotline.

SOS MUJER, which offered nearly 33,000 services during that period, is accessible 24/7 for free from landline or mobile phones, and the line works in coordination with the National Police, according to the same source.

Multidisciplinary teams of social workers, lawyers and psychologists from the Women’s Care Service also provided assistance to around 1,450.

The Ciudad Mujer center has now advised around 18,500 people on questions of self-determination and autonomy for this population group.

The General Directorate for Prevention and Education against Trafficking in Women helped 118 victims of this crime.

In 2022, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs also presented the Visible Violence campaign, which aims to raise awareness of abuse in its many forms, affecting women and girls across the country.

This initiative focused on prevention so people could spot the first signs of intimidation, be it physical, sexual or psychological.

Eight out of ten Paraguayans aged 18 and over have experienced some form of gender-based violence in their lifetime, according to the national survey on their situation released last November by the National Institute of Statistics.

According to the Permanent Household Survey, Paraguayan women make up 49.7 percent of the population, approximately 3,609,000.
