Harry has accused his older brother of physically assaulting him at Nottingham Cottage in 2019 and of “pulling over” him after the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral in 2021.

The allegations are made in the Duke of Sussex’s memoir Spare, which is due to be published on January 10 – following his teaser interview with ITV’s Tom Bradby on Sunday night.

But sources close to Harry and William said the Prince of Wales “will not retaliate” and is “silent” for the sake of his family and country.

A friend of the brothers told the Sunday Times: “He will not retaliate. He would never do that because he is dignified and incredibly loyal.

“William is a fool because Harry knows he won’t retaliate. It’s cruel, cowardly and so sad for William to keep taking beatings.

“He is silent for the good of his family and the country.”

Harry shared a shocking allegation that his older brother Prince William physically assaulted him at Nottingham Cottage in 2019 and that a “red haze” came over the heir to the throne.

In the attack, the Prince of Wales is said to have grabbed him by the collar, broke his necklace and thrown him to the ground, where he landed on his dog’s bowl, which broke under his back.

It came after William reportedly branded Meghan Markle “rude” and “difficult” just before the Sussexes gave up their royal roles.

Harry added that he would have resisted if he hadn’t been in therapy.

Harry and Meghan lived in the London home – dubbed “Nott Cott” – in the grounds of Kensington Palace from 2016 before moving to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor estate in April 2019.

Other bombastic revelations in the book see Harry calling his brother his “arch-enemy” and claiming he “pounced on him” and “twice grabbed his shirt” shortly after the funeral of their grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh.

Harry, in his bombastic memoir, describes how Prince William “screamed” and “really fumed” as he held him down during the argument in front of then-Prince Charles after Prince Philip’s funeral.

William then reportedly used a secret set of codes on Princess Diana and hugged Harry.

William reportedly repeated, “I swear to you now on mum’s life that all I want is for you to be happy.”

Harry, William and Charles reportedly discussed the interview he and Oprah gave the month before.

And in his interview with ITV to embed his memoir, the Duke accused William and Kate of being “stereotyped” against his wife Meghan, which prevented them from “welcoming” her to the family.

When Bradby asked what he meant, he said: “Well, American actress, divorced, multiracial, there’s – there’s all sorts of aspects and what that can mean, but if it’s you, like a lot of my family members, if it’s you reading the press, the british tabloids, [Yeah] living life at the same time, there’s a tendency that you could end up living in the tabloid bubble rather than actual reality.’

Meghan was previously married to American TV producer Trevor Engelson for three years from 2011 to 2014.

Before meeting Harry, Meghan had starred in the US legal drama series Suits, where she played paralegal Rachel Zane.

Harry has said there can be reconciliation with the rest of his family as long as they “take responsibility”.

Speaking about what he wants from his family and his book, Harry told Tom Bradby: “I want reconciliation, but first there has to be some accountability.

“You can’t just keep telling me that I’m delusional and paranoid when all the evidence comes together because I was really scared of what was going to happen to me.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales are still to perform an engagement in the north of England this week while King Charles is due to visit Scotland, it has been reported.
