The cargo ship MV Glory of the Norwegian shipping company Leth ran aground in the Suez Canal on Monday. Egyptian canal authorities assure that this incident will not disrupt traffic.
A freighter ran aground in Egypt’s Suez Canal on Monday, a canal services company said.
“The M/V Glory ran aground while joining a southbound convoy near Alaqantarah. Suez Canal Authority tugboats are currently trying to get her back on the water,” the company said on Twitter. According to the canal authority, this accident is “unlikely to delay traffic”.
According to the Norwegian company Leth, the ship MV Glory ran aground near the town of El Qantara in the province of Ismailia on the Suez Canal. The company said canal tugs were attempting to refloat the ship.
The ship was refloated around 9 a.m., the ship’s agent said.
Officials did not provide details about the reasons for the ship’s grounding. Parts of Egypt, including its northern provinces, experienced a wave of severe weather on Sunday.
It was not the first ship to run aground in the crucial waterway. The Panamanian-flagged Ever Given, a colossal container ship, blocked the canal for almost a week in March 2021.
