The EU’s disease control agency ECDC will provide information Tuesday afternoon on the status of cases of hepatitis of uncertain origin in children.

The Stockholm-based EU disease control agency ECDC will provide information Tuesday afternoon on the status of hepatitis cases of uncertain origin in children. According to the WHO over the weekend, 169 children in about a dozen western countries had been affected as of April 21.

First cases of hepatitis in children in Vienna on Monday

On Monday, the first two cases in Austria were added where viral hepatitis A, B, C, D or E could not be detected and where the background of liver inflammation is unclear. The two children are being treated at St. Anna in Vienna. They were not in critical condition on Monday.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), two-thirds of unclear liver infections have been reported in Britain since early April. The rest is spread across several European countries, from Norway to Romania and the USA. 17 of the affected children required a liver transplant and at least one died.

The ECDC press conference will be streamed live on YouTube at 12:00 pm:
