Cage the Elephant frontman arrested for illegal gun possession Tangerina

Matt Shultz, lead singer of the indie band Lock up the elephantHe was arrested last Thursday (5) for illegally carrying a weapon. The singer was staying at the Bowery Hotel in New York when police received a tip and issued a search warrant for firearms in his room.

A hotel worker reportedly saw Shultz carrying a gun in a downstairs bathroom, prompting him to call local police. According to the Chron, the artist admitted to police that he had two .45 caliber guns, but when asked if he had them on him, he replied that he didn’t know.

When the police served the search warrant, two loaded guns were found in the room. Matt Shultz was taken to the police station and arrested but released a few hours later. So far, no Cage the Elephant representative has commented on the arrest.

Before his arrest for illegal gun possession, singer Matt Shultz, 39, had no criminal record.

Formed in 2006, Cage the Elephant is an exponent of indie rock consisting of Matt, his older brother Brad Shultz, Nick Bockrath, Matthan Minster, Daniel Tichenor and Jared Champion.

The group was nominated for three Grammys and won two Grammophones for the albums Tell Me I’m Pretty (2015) and Social Clues (2019). The band is also a fixture at Lollapalooza Brasil and has performed at the festival in 2012, 2014 and 2017.
