Musk drops hints at several upcoming Twitter improvements, including 4,000-word tweets

Eric Hippeau, managing partner of Lerer Hippeau, discusses Elon Musk’s long-term vision for the social media platform in The Claman Countdown.

Elon Musk took to Twitter over the past few days to reveal some new features that are expected to roll out as soon as next week.

Several features will soon be added to Twitter, which should improve the user interface of the social media application.

Some of the improvements include the ability to swipe between recommended and followed tweets, create long-form tweets, and bookmark tweets with the press of a button.

One user tweeted Musk and said he wanted to be able to italicize normal tweets to emphasize words, like in comics.

Musk said basic formatting like bold, underlining, and font size would be added later in the quarter.

Another user posted that users could post 4,000-word tweets, raising questions about how they would appear on the timeline or if the post would appear elsewhere in the app.

TWITTER TO BRING BACK SOME POLITICAL ADVERTISING

Musk said the 4,000-word tweets would appear in the timeline like any other tweet, giving users the option to click on them to read more.

“The goal is to allow people to post long form natively on Twitter, rather than forcing them to use another site,” he said. “Twitter will continue to recommend shortly in tweets.”

The ability to switch between recommended and followed tweets will roll out later this week, Musk noted, and a bookmark button will roll out the following week.
