TV personality Grant Denyer’s wife was praised for her fearless reaction when she found a deadly brown snake in her family’s garden.

The eastern brown snake is highly venomous and is responsible for about 60 percent of human snakebite deaths in Australia.

Grant posted a video to Instagram on Monday of his wife Chezzi shooing the reptile away with barbecue tongs while he and their three daughters, Sailor, Scout and Sunday, took shelter inside the house.

The footage shows a quick-thinking Chezzi grabbing a broom and tongs, then confronting the line outside her back door, which gets uncomfortably close to the family dog.

“When Mr. Brown comes to visit, trust the chick who had snakes as a kid to take care of it,” a proud Grant commented on the footage on Instagram.

In the video, Grant could be heard shouting in the background, “See it Chez? It comes for the stairs.”

‘Just a mother trying to cook dinner on time when the kids see a big snake heading for the dog,’ Chezzi replied calmly.

The snake eventually retreated to the paddock and Chezzi then returned inside to serve her family dinner.

The Denyers’ famous friends praised the mother-of-three for her reaction to the snake.

‘Mom is so brave… I love you mom!’ added Lisa Wilkinson.

How do you treat a brown snake bite?

Pictured how to immobilize a bandaged limb with splints after a snakebite

1. Call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance.

2. Look for danger – move away from the snake and/or keep anyone bitten away from it.

3. Lay the patient down and ask them to remain still. Reassure the patient.

3. If on a limb, place an elastic roll bandage (10-15 cm wide) over the bite site as soon as possible.

4. Apply another elastic bandage (10-15 cm wide) starting just above the fingers or toes and moving up the bitten limb as far as possible. Place the bandage as tightly as possible on the limb. It should not be possible to slip a finger easily between the bandage and the skin.

5. Immobilize the bandaged limb with splints.

6. Record the time of the bite and when the bandage was applied. If possible, mark the location of the bite (if known) on the skin with a pen or photograph the area. Do not wash the venom from skin or clothing as this can aid in identification.

7. Stay with the patient until medical help arrives.
