Paul Hogan looks happier and healthier as he jets back to Los Angeles after Christmas Down Under

Paul Hogan looked very fragile as he returned to Australia last month to celebrate Christmas with his family.

But on Monday, the 83-year-old actor looked happier and healthier as he flew back to Los Angeles after his stint Down Under.

The Crocodile Dundee star, who arrived in a wheelchair at Sydney Airport after suffering a rib injury, carried a holdall as he strolled through the airport ahead of his flight to LA.

Hogan, famous for his rugged performances in the popular film series, wore black trousers, a light blue buttoned shirt and a black blazer as he checked in for his flight.

He completed his look with comfy black trainers and kept a low profile with a pair of dark shades.

It comes just weeks after Hogan appeared very frail when he landed in Sydney in a wheelchair being pushed by a minder.

The pinball star got out of the chair unaided but struggled to walk as he clung to his side and appeared to be in pain from his rib injury.

The actor has been struggling with muscle wasting and dramatic weight loss after being diagnosed with retroperitoneal fibrosis.

Hogan opened up about his condition during an interview with Tracy Grimshaw, the host of A Current Affair – her last before she left Nine’s flagship program after 17 years – and revealed the benign growth has wrapped around the abdominal aorta and is pressing on his kidney has.

He admitted the devastating effects on his health have prompted him to leave the $3.5 million Venice Beach home he shares with his 24-year-old son Chance and return to the relative tranquility of his home country.

‘[I’ve] been better. I had a problem with the aorta in the kidney and the treatment fixed it, but it shrunk me,” he said.

“I just… I lost all my body fat and the muscles have all shrunk and the strength has come back because it made me weak. I get chance to open jars for me.’

He added: “Some of my friends on a diet hate me for trying to eat every fatty and fatty food you can think of. Everything they are not allowed to have. I can’t gain an ounce.«

The actor has been prescribed corticosteroids to stunt growth but is now needing to regain his strength after the health crisis has dramatically altered his body.

Hogan said the steroid treatment was worse than the disease.

“They shrink your muscles and [they’re] meant to make you fat but I got thinner and thinner and thinner,” Hogan revealed.

“I’m trying to put on some fat now…because you feel the cold too much when you don’t have body fat.”

Hogan now has a pacemaker and says he’s being “held together by a string” as he tries to make a full recovery.

The Golden Globe winner said he “maintained” his fitness up to the age of 79 and admits he’s lucky to have been healthy for so long.

“I was still fit. I would still knock out most 40-year-olds,” he said. “And then I turned 80 and it’s nice to say that ‘turning 80 isn’t for sissies’ because things start to fall apart.”

Hogan has previously said he is desperate to return to Australia as his health deteriorates, but says he won’t leave son Chance – his child with his ex-wife and former Crocodile Dundee co-star Linda Kozlowski – alone in California can.

“I’m not where I should be, but I can’t complain about anything,” he said.

“I’ve had such a gifted life. So many wonderful things have happened to me that I didn’t deserve so I shouldn’t complain but yeah ideally I’d rather be back in Sydney because I miss the rest of my family there.

Hogan recently revealed he’s been “homesick for years” after the Venice Beach neighborhood that surrounded his home became a magnet for vagrants.

“I miss the people, the ambiance – and there’s something that just can’t be pinpointed, but there’s something friendlier and more relaxed about Australia,” he told the Daily Telegraph.

“It never takes itself seriously — there’s no arrogance like there is in other places.”

In 2005, he moved to Los Angeles with then-love and former co-star Linda Kozlowski, whom he met on the set of Crocodile Dundee.

He left his first wife Noelene to pursue a love affair with much younger Linda, now 64, and they married in 1990.

She filed for divorce in 2014, but they are said to still get along well and live in the same neighborhood while raising their son together.

In an interview with Sunrise last year, Hogan said he was “desperate” to return to Australia and leave his life in America behind.

“I’m terribly homesick,” he said. “I live in LA County, that’s 10 million people, and half of them have Covid. So am I homesick? You bet your life.’
