Prince Harry opens up about tense text exchange between Meghan and Kate over bridesmaid’s dress

Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare, is finally out.

After days of leaked details, the highly-anticipated tome hit bookstores on January 10 and contains new details about a tense incident it says happened between Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Catherine, now Princess of Wales.

Royal watchers may recall headlines about a tearful disagreement between former Meghan Markle and former Kate Middleton, which came just before Harry and Meghan’s wedding at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in 2018.

In “Spare,” Harry writes that a tense exchange of texts between the women led to the emotional moment.

According to the prince, it all started when Kate contacted Meghan about the bridesmaid dress that her daughter, Princess Charlotte, was to wear to the ceremony.

“Charlotte’s dress is too big, too long, too baggy,” the text reads, the book states. “She cried when she tried it on a house.”

“Right, and I told you, the tailor has been ready since 8 in the morning. Here. At KP,” Meghan replied, according to Harry’s report. “Can you take Charlotte to have it changed like the other moms do?”

Harry also writes that Kate complained about a party for the bellboys who attended the ceremony, which included her son Prince George.

When Harry got home, “he found Meg on the floor. Sobbing,” he said in the book.

When rumors about the pre-wedding troubles between Meghan and Kate first surfaced in British tabloids, it was claimed that Kate was the one who broke down in tears from their interactions.

But in a conversation with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Meghan said it was the opposite.

“The opposite happened,” Meghan told Winfrey. “A few days before the wedding,[Kate]was upset about something – the topic was right, about flower girl dresses – and it made me cry and it really hurt my feelings.”

She also noted that Kate later “owned” the issue.

“She brought me flowers and an apology note and she did what I would do if I knew I had hurt someone, just take responsibility for it,” Meghan told Winfrey.

Kensington Palace, which represents the Prince and Princess of Wales, and Buckingham Palace have declined to comment on “Spare”. A representative for Prince Harry also declined to comment on the recordings.
