Republicans call for Santos resignation

The Republican leadership in his constituency called on US Congressman George Santos to resign because of false information on his resume. He shouldn’t be doing public service, Joseph Cairo, the Republican leader in Nassau County, New York, said today. “He brought disgrace to the House of Representatives and we don’t consider him one of our congressmen.”

That’s why Nassau County’s Republican leadership is calling for his “immediate resignation” as representative. The 34-year-old was elected to the Chamber of Deputies for the first time in congressional elections in November.

The “New York Times” then closely analyzed Santos’ resume. For example, he claimed to have been a “seasoned Wall Street investor”. However, when questioned by the newspaper, alleged employers said that Santos had never been their employee.

The newspaper was also unable to verify his university degree. Santos was also accused of misleading the public about his family history and alleged Jewish background. The New York District Attorney’s Office launched an investigation in December. In an interview, the republican admitted that he had “painted” his resume.

He will not resign, Santos told reporters. Newly elected Republican Speaker of the House of Congress Kevin McCarthy had previously said Santos’ case would be handled internally.
