Lily James portrayed the Baywatch Baywatch star in the 2022 miniseries Pam & Tommy, which chronicled her marriage to Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee and the unauthorized release of their sex tape in the mid-’90s. A project undertaken without Pamela Anderson’s consent.
On Tuesday, Netflix released the first trailer of Pamela, A Love Story, a documentary about her life that she took part in. Pamela Anderson has been candid about her feelings about the show.
“I mentally blocked this stolen video of my life to survive. Now that it’s all coming back, I’m getting sick,” we can hear him say in stock images. “I want to take control of the narrative for the first time.”
In a voiceover, Pamela Anderson says she “didn’t feel like she got a lot of respect” when comedian Ruby Wax asked her if she wanted to be “a serious actress” during a sequence on the set of Baywatch in Malibu.
“I’m a serious actress,” replied Pamela Anderson, who wore her iconic red swimsuit while Ruby Wax laughed.
“I had to make a career out of the pieces that were left. But I’m not the damsel in distress. I’ve put myself in crazy situations and survived them,” continues Pamela Anderson in the narration. “I don’t care what people think because it’s the only choice I had. If I cared what people think, I wouldn’t be here.”
“Some might be like, ‘Oh, that’s a Playboy thing,’ or that’s a sex object, and they hate you because you’re something else. You have to be brave and use what you have. Why can’t we be the heroes of our own lives?” she asks.
In a confessional at the end of the trailer, Pamela Anderson jokes, “Maybe I should do all the interviews nude, there’s no secret here.”
Pamela, A Love Story starts streaming on Netflix January 31.
