Suspect Bryan Kohberger was “chatty” and “charming” at a doctor’s appointment days after the Idaho murders.

Idaho murder suspect Bryan Kohberger attended a routine doctor’s appointment in the days after the murders, during which he “charmed” the staff by being “chatty.”

Kohberger, 28, was taking a medical just four days after Kaylee, 21, Maddie Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20, were murdered Nov. 1 at their home off campus appointment part. Since then he has been accused of their murders.

A receptionist at the doctor’s office, who spoke to Insider on condition of anonymity, said the murder suspect was kind enough for her boss to notice. The receptionist said her boss said he was “so nice and charming.”

A neighbor, Arun Dash, who lived in the same Pullman apartment complex as Kohberger, described him as “chatty” in the days after the murders, but added that there was “never anything suspicious” about him.

Dash told Insider that Kohberger has always been kind and often tried to make plans, even though their schedules didn’t line up.

“He asked me what I’m studying, where I’m from. He would only make friendly small talk.

Another student describes Kohberger similarly, saying, “He talked to everyone, he was a very talkative person – not charming, but outgoing.”

Kohberger, who worked as a teaching assistant at Washington University’s Pullman campus while he was studying criminology, also “stopped caring about him” after the murders, his students claim.

“He wasn’t a great TA,” criminology student Emilie, who asked to use only her first name, told Insider.

Before the November 13 massacre, Emilie said Kohberger had been a difficult teacher but quickly took to assigning essays and returning high-grader graduates after murders.

Kohberger is now being held without bail in the Idaho jail after being extradited from Pennsylvania, where he was arrested on December 30 for the murders.

He is accused of four counts of murder and a burglary. An explosive police affidavit claimed they matched Kohberger’s DNA to a sample taken from the knob of a leather knife sheath left at the scene. That sample was then matched to his father’s DNA, which was found in the trash outside the family home, police said.

On Wednesday, victim Maddie Mogen’s father – Ben Mogen – told Good Morning American he broke down when he was told a suspect had been arrested.

“He said, ‘Ben, this is the moment we’ve been waiting for,'” Mogen recalls.

He added that he couldn’t bring himself to read the full police affidavit, which describes how they believed Kohberger killed Maddie and the others.

“I just broke down and just cried,” Mogen said. “I could only take so much of that. I still haven’t read the rest.’

While details of the affidavit were being released, an Idaho judge recently sealed a search warrant for Kohberger’s Washington home because it could end the investigation prematurely.

The search warrant documents, filed the same day as his arrest, state that “compelling circumstances justify the temporary sealing ordered in this matter.” The information will remain secret until March 1st.

The language used in the court document left some questions about what the “threat to public safety” and the “threat to privacy of witnesses, victims and names of victims’ families in the affidavit” might be.

The documents were filed before Kohberger’s identity was widely reported.

The court documents emerged after a gag order released by the Moscow Police Department last week.

Latah County Magistrate Judge Megan Marshall issued a non-proliferation order Jan. 3 relating to the Kohberger murder case.

“The order prohibits any communication by investigators, law enforcement personnel, attorneys and representatives of prosecutors or defense attorneys regarding this case,” police said in a release.

“As a result of this court order, the Moscow Police Department will no longer communicate with the public or the media in relation to this case.”
