“It’s a very good operation for the player and relatively good for Betis,” Betis President Ángel Haro said of his player Álex Moreno’s now official transfer to Aston Villa. The prime minister’s economic dominance is being re-enacted in a commitment that has rocked the news of Betis immersed in the Spanish Super Cup dispute in Saudi Arabia. Aston Villa sign one of the best left-backs in LaLiga for €13.5m plus 1.5 in variables. The numbers aren’t spectacular, but they help Betis ease their accounts a little with 38 million losses last season. The figures are very good for the player, with a low record at Betis now practically trebling for the England side. Aston Villa, eleventh in the Premier, are trying to redeem themselves under the leadership of Unai Emery. The Spanish coach’s interest was key for Álex to go to England. At the age of 29, the Catalan has signed a three-and-a-half-season deal.
Álex Moreno wanted to leave Nottingham Forest last summer. The offer was then deemed insufficient by Betis. Aston Villa presented an initial offer for the Betic footballer on January 2, which was also rejected by the Andalusian club. The following proposal appealed to Betic executives who also took into account the footballer’s salary jump. The winger was signed by Betis in the summer of 2019 from Rayo Vallecano for €7m plus another in variables for 80% of the pass. For four seasons, the footballer has been an important part of a Betis team that has grown sportingly under Manuel Pellegrini. Álex Moreno has made 122 appearances for Betis and has scored six goals. He won the Copa del Rey and worked alongside his team-mates in the Andalusian club’s last two European qualifiers in the last two seasons. He previously played for Mallorca, Elche and Rayo Vallecano.
“It’s an important loss because it’s at a great moment. He gave us a lot offensively and defensively. I’ve already said that if the sale fixes economic problems, then most likely it has to happen. It serves the club. We will look for a way to replace him, which won’t be easy,” said Manuel Pellegrini in reference to the player’s departure. Álex Moreno said goodbye to Betis fans with a letter thanking them for their support and coaches and teammates expressed his gratitude for three and a half seasons with the Andalusian club.
