Billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott finalizes second divorce

Billionaire MacKenzie Scott is now officially divorced from Dan Jewett, marking the end of her second marriage after a previous split from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

A Washington state judge has finalized the rift between the wealthy philanthropist and the former science teacher, TMZ reported Tuesday. Scott filed for divorce in King County Superior Court in September, a year and a half after the couple announced their marriage in March 2021.

Both sides have signed a separation agreement covering all ownership, possession and debt settlements between them, but that document is not on file with the court, TMZ reported.

Scott first met Jewett while he was teaching chemistry at Seattle’s private Lakeside School, which Scott’s children attended.

The philanthropist was previously married to Bezos for 25 years before they divorced in early 2019. Scott left that relationship with around $38 billion, but she vowed to give half of her fortune to charity by joining the Giving Pledge, a campaign asking for help from the world’s richest people, most of their donating assets to philanthropy.

Between their 2019 divorce and November 2022, Scott has donated a total of $14.4 billion to over 1,500 organizations, Forbes reported last year. Her current net worth, according to the outlet’s real-time figures, is around $28 billion – still one of the 50 richest people in the world.

Scott and Jewett had collaborated on philanthropic endeavors during their marriage. But after she filed for divorce, Jewett’s name was removed from materials related to Scott’s charity work, including on the Giving Pledge website.
