The day before, at the invitation of his counterpart João Lourenço, the president of the neighboring country reiterated his interest in promoting the bilateral exchange of goods and services, as well as mutually beneficial investments.

In statements to the local press, Benguela Governor Luís Nunes assured that the presence of the dignitary in the area is awaited with great anticipation, mainly due to the fact that it is the headquarters of the Lobito Corridor.

Conceptually, the infrastructure begins in the western port of Lobito, crosses Angolan territory to the east, and in Katanga province crosses the mining regions of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the so-called copper belt of Zambia. .

Hichilema and Lourenço witnessed the signing of six bilateral legal instruments yesterday in Luanda, including a memorandum of understanding for the construction of the Jimbe (Angola)-Mwinulunga, Mapelenga and Sikongo (Zambia) border roads.

The parties finalized five memoranda of understanding and an agreement to create a binational commission to serve as a platform to promote political-diplomatic and economic ties.

As Lourenço noted, the African continent still lacks infrastructure to facilitate regional integration and cooperation between states.

For reasons of road connectivity, in addition to the projects for the railway branch and the Xangombo-Rivungo river canal in the province of Cuando Cubango, the construction of two highways is already underway that will connect the province of Moxico with Zambia, allowing for the movement of people and goods between the two countries favor, he commented.

It also confirmed interest in strengthening links in education, culture, science, agriculture and industry for raw processing and future interconnection of power transmission networks.

Regarding the Lobito Corridor, Lourenço pointed out that the government’s will is to put the infrastructure at the service of the economies of the region, especially Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, given its geographical proximity.
