A 59yearold homeless man in Toronto, Canada, was killed by eight girls between the ages of 13 and 16. The information comes from the Canadian broadcaster CBC.
The attack took place outside a downtown emergency shelter on December 18, 2022, but the identity of the victim was not released until Tuesday. Ken Lee’s name was added to the Toronto Homeless Memorial honoring dead homeless people.
After being beaten and stabbed by the girls, Lee was rescued at a hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The perpetrators were charged with seconddegree murder, but their identities were withheld because they were minors under Canada’s Juvenile Justice Act. According to police, all eight were charged because each “played a role” in the crime.
The tribute to Lee took place in front of Holy Trinity Church in Toronto.
Sanctuary Toronto spokesman Doug Johnson Hatlem deals with the homeless and said Lee immigrated from Hong Kong. According to him, the victim would work to get housing.
According to a friend of Lee’s who witnessed the attack, the girls wanted to drink a bottle but the victim tried to stop them. The police confirmed that they consider the attempted robbery of a beverage bottle hypothesis as the motive for the attack.
