The BBC weather presenter for the North of England, 39, took to her Instagram on Wednesday night to share the devastating news with her followers.

She shared a photo of a bouquet of white flowers sitting next to a single candle, alongside a lengthy statement describing her heartbreaking news.

Keeley said she experienced “terrible morning sickness” before miscarrying around the time of her 12-week scan, describing it as a “sad and worrying time.”

She wrote: “*Trigger warning* Baby loss. I returned to work last week but you may not have seen me for a while, the truth is I was out with terrible morning sickness.

“Unfortunately, the day before our 12 week scan, I showed signs of miscarriage. There was no heartbeat on the scan.

“A few days later I ended up back in the hospital due to severe blood loss. It was a sad and worrying time.

“It’s horrifying to think that so many people go through this, but I take comfort in knowing that miscarriages are not uncommon.

“Talking to other women/friends who have had similar experiences really helped.”

Keeley said she didn’t know how physically “traumatic” a miscarriage could be and admitted she was “ashamed” afterwards as she reassured other women they weren’t alone.

She continued, “It still feels like a topic that a lot of us don’t know enough about. For example, I had no idea how traumatic the physical side of a miscarriage can be.

“One of the many feelings I have felt is shame. I can’t help but wonder if that’s one of the reasons it’s not talked about more.

“So I’m just posting this as one more person to contribute to the dialogue. Maybe it helps someone a little to know they are not alone in their experience.

“I also post a lot of positive things about my life here and wanted to be honest because sometimes life can be a little bit junk.

“Thank you to our friends, family and colleagues who have been so kind to us over the past few weeks.”

The BBC Look North star, who shares a daughter Scout, two, with her husband Johnny I’Anson, has been inundated with messages of support from her fans.

One person wrote: “So sorry to hear this Keeley. stay strong darling That’s something I’ve been through too. If you ever need a chat I’m there too along with your friends xx’

Another commented: “So sorry. I send you lots of love xxx’
