Guatemala is preparing conditions for the pilgrimage to the Black Christ

The Black Christ Pilgrimage is already attracting thousands of national and international tourists, which is why the actions focus on protocols to prevent diseases, including Covid-19.

The aim is to ensure the health of the pilgrims, especially this year when the strict restrictions imposed by the pandemic have been overcome.

Since last week, information and awareness campaigns have started on topics such as hygiene in food preparation and hygiene protocols to avoid infections related to Covid-19 and monkeypox.

Representatives from hotels and lodgings in the community attend the training, as do typical food vendors, who are in high demand from visitors.

Also as of today, the Road Safety Plan is ready to prevent and reduce road accidents during the 62nd edition of Fox Caravan, the nation’s intangible cultural heritage since 2011.

February 4 is, as usual, the day of departure for thousands of motorcyclists from the capital’s Plaza de la Constitución towards the Basilica of the Black Christ in Esquipulas.

On this occasion there will be rest points along the route where participants can check their equipment, rest and solve mechanical problems.

The caravan resumes after a two-year hiatus as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
