The President of the United States, Joe Biden, assured last Tuesday (10) during a trip to Mexico that he had no knowledge of the contents of confidential documents found in an office that he used as Vice President in the administration of Barack Obama .
“I don’t know what the documents say,” Biden told reporters after the North America summit, along with his Mexican counterpart Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Biden expressed surprise at the discovery, made at a research center in Washington, and pledged to work with him to solve the case.
The president’s attorneys discovered the documents in November in a locked cabinet during a cleanup at the Penn Biden Center, affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania, and turned them over to the National Archives, which maintains such material, said Richard Sauber, Biden’s special counsel.
“The White House is cooperating with the National Archives and the Justice Department,” Sauber said in a statement, describing the find as “a small number of documents marked classified.”
“The documents were not the subject of a solicitation or prior inquiry,” and since they were found, Biden’s attorneys have worked together to “ensure that the ObamaBiden administration’s records are in the possession of the archive,” he explained.
White House concerned about case
The White House came under heavy scrutiny last Wednesday (12) over the discovery of classified documents allegedly lost by President Biden a case complicating the investigation of a similar scandal involving former President Donald Trump.
