In fact, the idyllic region of southern Quebec is the only one in the country to appear on this list, alongside famous spots like London and the Navajo Monument Valley, or the magical Kilmartin Glen in Scotland, or the incredible Tassili n’Ajjer desert in Algeria.
“We’re committed to being associated with such mythical destinations, given that The New York Times is a large medium and caters to a clientele that we’re trying to reach,” said Annie Langevin, general manager of Tourisme Cantons-de-l ‘Est. The news will go a long way, it sheds a beautiful light on our region, we hope it will generate some traffic. But we already believe that it will have a direct impact on cycling lovers who will be directly challenged by the Véloroute Gourmande. »
In addition to the vineyards, cheese factories (and Putin!), The New York Times even directly mentions the 145-mile (235 km) bike path that connects Montreal to Sherbrooke and features more than 120 food stops. “It’s a short article, but it manages to fully understand our goal,” Ms. Langevin continues. The Genießer-Radweg invites you to take your time, and that’s exactly what we are, because we recommend people to take their time and stay with us. »
The New York daily describes the Eastern Townships as Canada’s New England with a touch of French flair, and accompanies the text with a magnificent winter photo of Saint-Benoît-du-Lac Abbey, a nod to the fact that the region is welcoming in all seasons.
“We had no idea our region would be on that list,” admits Annie Langevin. But we are proud and happy, it is a great recognition, but also a nice pat on the back for our partners. »
