The 39-year-old veteran has a valid contract until 2026, but doesn’t necessarily give the impression of wanting to continue his career. On Sunday, as his season ended after a loss to the Detroit Lions, Rodgers stated he needed to think about it.

On the Packers side, the legendary Pivot’s decision will be respected, whatever it is.

“It will definitely take time [pour y songer]. I think that’s normal, Gutekunst said in a press conference on Friday. And as we work on how he takes his time and makes his decisions about his playing career, we will come together and move forward.

Of course, the massive three-year, $150.8 million guaranteed deal suggests Rodgers is better off getting back on the court by at least 2024.

“We made a very big promise to him before last season,” the DG recalled. So I think it certainly wasn’t just for this season.”

difficult season

After back-to-back campaigns in which he was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player, Rodgers is down to earth. He went 8-9 and had 3,695 passing yards. He made 26 touchdown passes and had 12 interceptions, his second-highest career tally.

“It wasn’t a very good year for us offensively. But you all saw that he can still play at a very high level. I really liked the way he guided us,” said Gutekunst, who wants to see Rodgers again, as does head coach Matt LaFleur.

The number 12 has had to cope with a number of injuries, mainly to his ribs, which may have hampered his performance. Rodgers was also very critical of the Packers’ young offensive squad.

“As always, we had good discussions,” said the managing director. We spoke this week and everything went very well. I respect the process he watches after each season. He’s been doing that for a long time. […] We talked about the season, what went well, what didn’t go well, what he liked and what he didn’t like.

In 2022, the Packers were eliminated from the playoffs for the first time in four seasons.
