Egypt Says It Discovered Ancient Royal Tomb In Luxor

Archaeologists have unearthed an ancient tomb in the southern Egyptian city of Luxor, known for its treasures from the time of the pharaohs, authorities said on Saturday.

Mostafa Waziri, secretary-general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said a British-Egyptian mission found the king’s tomb at an ancient site on the west bank of the Nile in Luxor, 650 kilometers (400 miles) south of the capital Cairo.

He added that initial investigations show that the tomb appears to belong to the 18th dynasty of Pharaonic Egypt, dating from 1550 B.C. to 1292 BC was enough.

The tomb is the latest in a series of discoveries Egypt has been promoting in recent years, hoping to attract more tourists to visit its antiquities. Egypt has been trying to revitalize its tourism sector, which is a major source of foreign exchange and heavily dependent on the country’s ancient treasures.
