It’s not astronomy Chelsea handlers strong side.
The comedian seemed shocked Jimmy Fallon on NBC’s The Tonight Show on January 12, when she said, “I didn’t know until I was 40 that the sun and moon weren’t the same.”
Fallon replied, “I found that hard to believe, what are you talking about?” Handler continued, “It was shocking to me too.”
The 47-year-old, who will host the 2023 Critics Choice Awards on Jan. 15 and was a guest presenter of The Daily Show in February, recalled being called out about the matter during a trip to Africa.
“We were on safari,” she told Fallon. “My sister and I rode an elephant and there was a man who rode an elephant for us because we don’t know how to ride an elephant. And my older sister Simone looked up at the sky and said, ‘Chelsea, Chelsea, look up. It’s not often that you see the sun and the moon at the same time.’”

She continued, “I was like Scooby-Doo. I’m like ‘Ruh, wah?’ I said I’m going, ‘Wait. But they are always together.’ And as soon as I said that, she turned around and said, ‘What did you say?'”
Handler said she knew what she said was wrong and that she was “just trying to sugarcoat it.” However, her sister demanded an explanation.
“She said, ‘No. You have to tell me what you think happens between the sun and the moon,'” Handler said. “And I was like, ‘Honestly, I just assumed that when the sun went down, it reappeared as the moon.”

The star continued, “The man riding the elephant didn’t speak English and said, ‘Pfft!’ And he just says, ‘Another stupid American, you know?’
