Lima, Peru. – The government of Peruvian President Dina Boluarte remains under constant siege from social protests, demands and pressure to resign, joined this week by that of a minister.
The protests and popular rallies include hundreds of roadblocks isolating southern regions such as Puno, Cusco, Cajamarca and Arequipa, the latter believed to be Peru’s second largest city, and anti-government activities are also not expected to stop.
The previous evening, the President had apologized for the more than 40 deaths in the protests, but indicated that she would not stop using police operations to ensure order.
Among popular demands for an end to the brutal repression, the main demand is for Boluarte’s resignation, a demand that is gaining support, even from human rights and other organizations.
