Chef Bela Gil, 35, announced the end of her 19year marriage to businessman and designer JP Demasi, 42. Gilberto Gil’s daughter made it clear on her Instagram that even after the marriage has ended, there is still love and partnership between the two.
Before she had a relationship with Bela, the designer also dated Preta Gil, the chef’s sister.
Two years of relationship. “Bela was 15 and I was about 28 when I dated JP. The relationship lasted about two years. Some time passed and one day my sister said to me, ‘I’m dating JP’. I remember just telling him, ‘Dude, take care of my sister!’
Reunion. “At the carnival in Salvador. I was sure that he is the man of my life. It was love at first sight,” Bela told the Extra newspaper in 2020, reiterating that he had already broken up with his sister.
Platonic? “In my mind, there was no way he was interested in me. I told my friends: My heart hurts just thinking about him. How dramatic I was!” said Bela.
Initiative. “I took the initiative! I had him on my mind for six months. We met at a party of some mutual friends. And I proposed to her! And we never broke up again,” Bela told Extra.
timeline. The now excouple started dating in 2004 but didn’t get married until 2010. The relationship resulted in Flor Gil in 2008 and Nino Gil in 2016.
