Davina McCall transforms into a ’70s siren for a decades-long Masked Singer show

Davina McCall transformed into a ’70s siren with the help of her hairstylist friend Michael Douglas for a decades-themed Masked Singer show on Saturday night.

Michael, 55, who has been with Davina since the summer of 2019 and moved in with her just before Christmas, shared a behind-the-scenes clip on Instagram showing him cutting her hair and later curling it.

He finished the look with lots of hairspray to keep her tresses in place, while also sharing pictures of the star’s glittery jumpsuit and platform heels.

In another picture, Davina posed with co-panelist Jonathan Ross, who had an impressive mohican for the show.

Sharing his secrets behind the look and revealing that it can be recreated at home, Michael captioned his post: “A decades themed show tonight for @maskedsingeruk on @itv @davinamccall is 70’s disco if you haven’t already have guessed.

‘Easy to replicate yourself. @hairbysammcknight #savethedo to blow dry #mdlondon BLOW in Banche Green to do the heavy lifting.

“Curling irons are prototypes that I test. They are 22mm just so you know. A little vintage slap wave on the front to give us an authentic 70’s feel. And a lot of @schwarzkopf has to be hairspray so it doesn’t fall off!!!

‘Enjoying the show @mewossy looks freaking epic! good luck guessing. Have a great weekend xx’

Hairstylist Michael has prepared Davina’s raven locks for TV shows and events since she hosted Big Brother.

She had used his expertise for more than 20 years before they fell in love and started dating.

It comes after Davina shared opinion on a previous episode of The Masked Singer with a dramatic new fringe hairstyle.

Michael later gave a behind-the-scenes look at creating the look for the show, explaining that the new look was actually a £120 wig.

He started by dousing Davina’s hair with a water spray before applying some tame and shine cream to her raven locks.

The barber then tied the sleek tresses into a low braid and cut it flat, away from her face.

The stylist tried it on himself and straightened the wig, which retails at Pak Cosmetics for £120, while it was on his head.

The wig was then placed on Davina’s head while her partner clipped the fringe to create the bespoke style for the show.

The TV personality reprized her role as a celebrity judge on the show alongside Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan.

But a far cry from her usual center-parted bob, the style left fans divided as series four of the weird and wonderful ITV show began.

She caught the inevitable attention of fans as she reviewed this year’s selection of heavily disguised contestants.

Some commented on her new look, drawing uncharitable comparisons to Gale Weathers, the fictional news anchor who played Courteney Cox in Wes Craven’s hugely popular Scream franchise.

Taking to Twitter, an amused viewer shared a photo of Cox playing the precocious journalist with the caption, “Davina brings vibes to Scream 2.”

While a second joked: “Davina McCall may be a queen but even she can’t get away with clipping in bangs with a knife and fork…”

A third added: “Why does Davina McCall look like a Claudia Winkleman version of the emoji?”

However, others praised the presenter for her new look, with one commenting: “Is Davina McCall aging backwards?”

While a second gushed: “Davina McCall. What a body.’
