According to Vatican News, the episode happened around 3 a.m. when a group of intruders attacked the vicarage. Security forces were dispatched to the scene and when they got there, the attackers exited the house and set it on fire, causing Father Isaac’s death. Next to him, Collins, another church priest, was injured in the back while attempting to escape.

The head of public relations for the state police, Wasiu Abiodun, reported that “the bandits tried to break into the residence but could not, and set the house on fire and charred the priest to death.”

Father Collins, who suffered a back injury in the incident, was taken to hospital for treatment. State Command Police Commissioner Ogundele Ayodeji said reinforcement teams have been sent to the area and “efforts are being made to apprehend the attackers. The investigation into the tragic attack has begun.”
