Windows 11 and 12, the future will happen AI

Windows and artificial intelligence Windows and artificial intelligence

The future of Windows will go through artificial intelligence. AI already supports some of its features, but those are just prerequisites. These are Microsoft’s promises for the future.

Microsoft’s Panos Panay spoke at CES 2023 about integrating AI into the Windows experience. He explained that it was necessary to be prepared for important changes. Basically, everything we do with this operating system will be reinvented when artificial intelligence takes over. In addition, there is an ever thinning border between the local and the connected. The cloud will continue to grow by becoming more and more present.

We don’t know if the giant is talking about the immediate future of Windows 11 through Windows 12, or a version that will launch in the next decade.

Panos Panay clarified

AI will literally reinvent the way you do everything on Windows. Like these big generative models, think of language models, code generation models, image models; These models are so powerful, so charming, so useful. But they’re also very computationally intensive, and we haven’t been able to do that until now. We’ve never seen these intense workloads at this scale before, and they’re here. It’s going to take an operating system that blurs the line between cloud and edge, and that’s exactly what we’re doing right now.

Regarding Windows 12, rumors point to a release in 2024 or 2025. Work on this operating system has already begun, but internally and discreetly. It would be a burning and confidential file.

But we know that Microsoft is still working on Windows 11. In addition, Windows 10 is still relevant. Knowing that his retirement is scheduled for October 2025, that date seems a more appropriate time to start. Microsoft would continue in this way to ensure maintenance of two operating systems.
