The recovery of world tourism is progressing step by step and the good news is that of the six countries leading the global return to normalcy, five are from the Caribbean and Latin America, but Cuba is not among them. Even this island isn’t leading the tourist push in the region it’s part of.
A study on the outlook for world tourism shows that some countries will regain tourist arrivals in the summer, with numbers similar to those seen before the health crisis. These nations are led by Costa Rica, whose reserves for the next summer period exceed those registered on the same dates in 2019 by 30%.
Costa Rica is followed by Aruba, then the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Mexico. Pakistan appears in sixth place, which will have more visitors than 2019. The first European country to appear in this ranking is Iceland at number 10, followed by the most typical Greece, Portugal, Italy, Spain and France.
North American tourism will drive most of the global recovery, so the cheapest and most affordable travel destinations will differ due to their proximity, such as the United States. B. those in the Caribbean, recover first. And Cuba is known to not have this type of tourism due to a US government ban.
Behind the North American tourists, the British, Germans and French continue to travel more. Cuba has direct flights with these three countries through Condor, TUI and Air France, but connections are still scarce. At the moment, the island continues to depend on the arrival of Canadian tourists, and the dollar from this country continues to flow in.
Cuba’s tourism authorities are aiming for more than 2 million foreign visitors this year, numbers that would improve on previous years but would not reach the best numbers on the island. Tourism is the second sector on the island to contribute to gross domestic product (GDP), but its current growth has been classified as “discrete”.
However, the island’s government continues to invest in the construction of hotels and other infrastructure, creating at least 4,000 new hotel beds for this year in key Poland such as Varadero and other growth centers such as Camagüey and Holguín.
