Samsung electronics announced the launch of its latest external storage device, the Portable SSD Shield T7 (PSSD), which they say can withstand drops of up to 3 meters and is the size of a credit card.
The T7 Shield is the latest addition to Samsung’s T7 portable SSD family, an everyday device, and the T7 Touch, a PSSD with an in-display fingerprint sensor for enhanced data protection.
In its statement, Samsung promises that the T7 Shield is its most robust PSSD yet and is aimed specifically at content creators and travelers who “handle a lot of data”. Fear of data loss due to “exposure to the elements and breakdowns”.
The T7 Shield survives drops from three meters, is IP65 certified for dust and water resistance and weighs 98 grams.
This new device from Samsung offers a read speed of 1,050 megabytes per second (MB/s) and a write speed of 1,000 MB/s, twice as fast as its T5 predecessor up to 9.5 times faster than the brand’s external hard disk drives (HDD).
Samsung claims to have tweaked the inside and outside of the product, changed the surface material, and improved the T7 Shield’s “software” to address the performance loss and overheating experienced when transferring large files.
Because of this change The performance of the device promises stable performance even when moving files up to 2TB. It also minimizes heat build-up. Thus, it is said to support continuous data-intensive tasks such as recording, editing, encoding and rendering high-quality videos.
Designed to work on multiple devices, Samsung’s T7 Shield aims to store a large number of images, games and 4K and 8K videos, whether on a PC, Mac, “smartphone” (Android) or a game console.
In addition, security has been enhanced with hardware-based encryption, so consumer data can be safely protected even if it is misplaced. It also allows access to the software wizardwhich allows users to manage the device.
The T7 Shield is available in beige, black and blue and has capacities of 1 TB and 2 TB. The drive comes with a USB Type-C to C cable and a USB Type-C to A cable and includes a three-year limited manufacturer’s warranty of €1.5 million suggested retail price (MSRP). €178.99 for 1TB and €327.99 for 2TB.
