  • Renee Dawn Skoglund, 30, tried to falsify claims that she was getting tested for a sexually transmitted disease after having an extramarital affair

  • Knowing the rope was being sold at a local Walmart, police demanded surveillance footage of Skoglund purchasing the rope

A South Dakota woman pleaded guilty to fabricating a rape report in Florida to get a free test for sexually transmitted diseases after cheating on her husband. That came out after police found out she had bought the rope, which she said she used herself, at Walmart

Renee Dawn Skoglund, 30, faces two years under house arrest, eight years probation and a fine of over $17,000.

On March 8, Skoglund reported a sexual assault against her in Hillsborough County, Florida.

She pulled over to the curb where she was driving and stated that her car broke down, according to a 911 audio recording that was released.

Skoglund then told police that a man tied her arms and legs, put a towel on her head, pushed her into the car and raped her.

Her defeat came when she became aware of the type of rope used, which police knew was being sold at a local Walmart.

Police demanded surveillance video and discovered footage of Skoglund herself buying the rope.

“Following this discovery, investigators recovered video of several locations Ms. Skoglund had visited around the time surrounding the attack, disproving her original statements,” the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

“She attempted to change her statements before finally admitting to fabricating the entire incident.”

Ultimately, Skoglund attempted to fabricate her attack to test herself for an STD after an extramarital affair.

“She had consensual sexual intercourse with a person in Hillsborough County,” prosecutor Jessica Couvertier said in court, FOX 13 reported.

“Then she felt guilty about her marital status and wanted to be screened for an STD.”

Skoglund was charged March 10 with abusing a 911 system, falsely reporting a crime and falsifying physical evidence.

She now owes the local sheriff’s office a total of $17,245.26 for the money she spent investigating her claim.

“This case is really disheartening,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a press release after Skoglund was charged.

“There are far too many victims who face this type of trauma.” “This woman used our 911 number and diverted attention from the actual victims who need the available resources in these investigative scenarios.”
