A 51-year-old mother was fatally stabbed in Saint-Basile-le-Grand in Montérégie on the night of Sunday to Monday.
At around 11:30 p.m., emergency services were called to a woman with a stab wound to the neck at her home on Rue Ménard, near Rue André.
Police officers dispatched to the scene found a woman seriously injured from a stab wound, said Capt. Mathieu Berger of the Richelieu-Saint-Laurent Intercommunal Police Department.
The victim, who showed signs of violence on his body, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead that night, according to Captain Berger.
A 53-year-old man, who according to information from journalist Maxime Deland of the QMI Agency was the victim's spouse, was arrested on site and remains in custody.
Two other people were in the apartment at the time of the incident, but police are not releasing their ages or whether they are connected to the victim.
The Richelieu-Saint-Laurent police have set up a large cordon in the area and are awaiting the arrival of investigators and forensic identification technicians at the scene of the tragedy.
