A 65-year-old Jewish man dies during a counter-protest at a pro-Palestine rally in California

A Jewish man has reportedly died after a pro-Palestine rally in Westlake Village, California, on Sunday.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Thousand Oaks Boulevard and Westlake Road around 3:15 p.m., according to KTLA.

Fire officials told KTLA that authorities initially received a report that a “fight” had occurred with a “prone” elderly man.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles claimed the victim was “hit in the head by a pro-Palestinian protester’s megaphone.” They were unable to provide any further information.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department has not yet commented or responded to ‘s request for information. Los Angeles police told they were not involved.

Rabbi Michael Barclay, the rabbi at Westlake, urged calm and said he was trying to find more information.

“Please do NOT post misinformation about the horrific death of an elderly Jew yesterday here in Westlake, where I am the local rabbi,” he wrote on X.

“I have had long discussions with the police chief and they are investigating the various accounts of those being followed and reviewing videos.”

He added: “It is not yet clear exactly what happened, other than that an elderly Jew fell to the ground and died during a counter-protest at a demonstration in Gaza.”

“At this point we do NOT know if he fell, was pushed or attacked.”

“Please don’t spread rumors. “We will soon find out what happened.”
