His mother reported the death to Wat Doi Wao temple in his hometown of Chiang Rai, which the team visited frequently. Some of his teammates shared the news on social media.

Promthep was the captain of the Thai soccer team who was trapped in the cave for two weeks along with his coach during a tour of Chiang Rai province. His nickname was Dom.

The rescue of a group trapped in a cave in Thailand ends

Promthep was part of the Wild Boar (Moo Pa in Thai) soccer team that ventured into Tham Luang Cave on June 23, 2018. The group was trapped after the cave entrance flooded due to heavy rains in the region.

He was 13 at the time, while his teammates ranged in age from 11 to 16.

The group’s rescue came two weeks later after a dramatic threeday operation involving nearly 100 Thai and foreign divers.

The rescue made headlines around the world, and several films and books retell the story, including a sixepisode miniseries released by Netflix last year.

The 17yearold boy enrolled at Brooke House College Football Academy in Leicester in late 2022.
