A bulldog gives birth to a rare puppy with green fur

A dog has given birth to a rare puppy with green fur, after its owners fear that the pet is stillborn.

Freya’s Bulldog had eight litters, and one of the newborns was unusual in color.

Owners Trevor and Audrey Moscher said the names being considered for the puppy include Fiona after the princess of Shrek, Hulket and Pistachio.

Posting on Facebook, Audra wrote: “Our little green puppy is obviously a rare thing to see.

“I want the color to stay, it will be really cool!”

Fiona was born with a black bag; her siblings were translucent.

The shade is thought to be the result of contact with biliverdin’s green bile in the womb.

The couple, who live in Canada, thought she was stillborn until she was spotted moving.

Trevor told Global News: “We started drying it and noticed that it was green and immediately thought again that something was wrong.

“So we googled it, ‘my puppy is green, what’s wrong,’ and it’s obviously very rare and has happened several times around the world.

“I am just amazed. As rare as it may seem, I feel very lucky to have witnessed and to be a part of it. ”

Dr Bronwyn Crane said he suspected the chances of that happening were less than one in 10,000.

She said, “I’ve never met a green puppy before.”

The color will eventually fade until it disappears completely.

In 2020, The Sun reported how a white German shepherd named Gypsy gave birth to a green dog.

The puppy’s strange hue may have been caused by meconium, the earliest feces produced by a baby dog in the mother’s womb, experts said at the time.
