A Canadian woman murdered in Mexico, her boyfriend arrested

A British-Colombian woman vacationing in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, was murdered last week while her boyfriend was being arrested.

Police said in a statement provided by the Riviera Maya News website they had discovered the lifeless body of a Canadian showing signs of violence at a hotel belonging to the Princess Hotels group.

Police immediately arrested a suspect identified as “Ryan N.”, a 26-year-old Canadian man.

“He had bloodstains on his clothes and swollen hands, and a woman was lying on the ground next to him with visible wounds and blood,” police said.

Authorities have not released the victim’s name or connection to the accused, but Energetic City, which covers local news in northern British Columbia, identified the woman as Kiara Agnew, a Dawson Creek resident.

A crowdfunding campaign was posted on the GoFundMe website by relatives to raise funds for the repatriation of Kiara’s body.

“What was supposed to be a dream trip for her birthday party in Mexico with her boyfriend turned into a nightmare on March 3, 2023 when our family was notified of her death at the hands of someone she loved, who turned out to be a monster,” she described Family.

Lake View Credit Union, where Ms Agnew worked, also mourned her death.

“This is a devastating tragedy and loss to our community. We send all our love and confidence to all those affected,” the financial institution wrote on its Facebook page.
