Ukraine's president says a pause would give the Kremlin room to increase ammunition supplies
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, said this Thursday (January 11, 2024) that a ceasefire in the war in Eastern Europe would only be positive for Russia. He explained that the pause risks allowing the country led by Vladimir Putin to increase supplies of ammunition to its army. The statement was made during the Ukrainian president's visit to the Baltic countries.
“The pause would not lead to the end of the war, it would not lead to a political dialogue with Russia or anyone else.” And thank God, all this was decided in Ukraine and there will be no pauses in favor of Russia,” Zelensky said in Tallin, the capital of Estonia.
On this occasion, the President of Ukraine also spoke about the weapons shortage faced by the country's army during the conflict.
Also this Thursday (January 11), Zelensky said in Riga, the capital of Latvia, that Russia was preparing a preelection offensive. The presidential elections will take place in March to decide who will be the Russian head of state.
Zelensky is trying to resist his allies' fatigue due to the conflict that has been ongoing since 2022. At the end of 2023, Hungary blocked an EU (European Union) aid package that would provide 50 billion euros (around R$270 billion) for Ukraine.
