There will be action in the skies over Saguenay on Thursday afternoon. More than a dozen CF-18s from Bagotville Military Base's 3rd Wing will fly east to west over the skies of Saguenay, from La Baie to Jonquière, as part of a challenging aerial survey to mark the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).
This operation, called “Pride in Power,” will take place around 2:20 p.m., the National Defense said in a press release.
We want to highlight the skills and knowledge of the 3rd Wing personnel, but most importantly, it is also a gesture of gratitude and recognition to the people of Saguenay who support and welcome the ARC personnel and their families. For many generations, the commander of the 3rd Wing Operations Support Squadron, Sébastien Gorelov, mentioned in an interview with It's never the same.
The CF-18s will fly at an altitude of about 1,000 feet (300 meters) above the highest point of their route.
Best places
Mr. Gorelov recommends that citizens go near the military base runway or near the civilian airport around 2 p.m. In the Chicoutimi district, the ideal location is the axis of Boulevard Université, between the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi and the Center Georges-Vézina, at 2:20 p.m.
For aviation enthusiasts, the event is a kind of preview of the big Bagotville air show that will take place on June 22nd and 23rd. The last edition in 2019 brought together no fewer than 140,000 people.
