The town of Ploemeur in western France was fined €2,000 after children suffered sunburn.
The community and three day camp directors were sued for involuntary injuries.
They were accused of failing to protect several children from the sun during a beach trip in July 2021.
According to the daily newspaper “Le Télégramme”, 50 children suffered from sunburn, three of whom were more severely affected.
The three animators, whom the prosecutor described as “immature, unconscious and unscrupulous,” were found not guilty.
The city of Ploemeur was fined 2,000 euros (more than $2,900) for unintentional injuries.
The prosecutor had requested this ruling because there were “failures on the part of the town hall, recklessness and poor analysis on the part of superiors who were not up to the task.”
