A climber died on Saturday night after falling down a slope about 30 meters high in La Pedriza, a town in the Madrid mountains, according to the 112 Madrid emergency services. The accident happened in the area of this municipality known as Charca de Venus. The victim is a middle-aged man who was traveling with several companions on a route in the area. The Guardia Civil has taken over the investigation to clarify the circumstances of the accident.
At first the Special Height Rescue Group (GERA) of the Fire Department of the Autonomous Community of Madrid, forest officers of the Autonomous Community of Madrid, Sereim of the Guardia Civil and CREM Emergencies collaborated in resuscitating the wounded, until the arrival of the SUMMA 112 toilets, which certified his death .
Some guides he was with were the ones who first tracked him down. At this point he was already in cardiac arrest, so resuscitation maneuvers were started. When that point was reached, the Madrid Municipal Fire Service’s Special Height Rescue Group (GERA) continued resuscitation, but ultimately the Summa 112 medical team could only confirm the man’s death.
The causes of the fatal accident are still unknown. The Guardia Civil will investigate the incident and clarify, for example, why a group of hikers were in the area at half past ten at night. As can be seen from the images provided by Summa 112, the victim was located and rescued in the dark and searchlights were required for the maneuvers.
In this area there is a hiking trail that runs along the Manzanares River, where there are various pools and waterfalls and that has some inclines. The guides on the routes for hikers usually warn of the danger of slipping. According to the companies that operate routes in the area, you must have a high physical level to do this excursion. The deceased was on an excursion with his wife and other companions when all indications are that he tripped and fell. It was she who alerted the emergency services.
