A clutch problem is forcing a recall

A minority of Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators are equipped with the six-speed manual transmission, but more than 77,000 of them are now subject to a recall in North America due to a clutch problem, including nearly 7,500 in Canada.

More specifically, the affected models are the 2018-2023 Wrangler and 2020-2023 Gladiator, both equipped with the 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar.

On certain vehicles and under certain circumstances, friction can cause the clutch pressure plate to overheat and break, or even crack the transmission housing. Also, it is possible for debris to fall onto the road and cause an accident involving other vehicles.

The manufacturer reports a case in which a fire broke out and one of the occupants was injured. At least thirty warranty claims were also made in connection with this defect.

Owners will be notified by mail from mid-April. However, the solution to the problem is not ready yet.

A similar recall was issued in 2021, but vehicles repaired at that time must be repaired again.
