The winter episode that started on Wednesday will intensify with a new mass of cold air that will make for cold and uncomfortable weather this weekend, although not in all parts of the Peninsula and Balearic Islands. According to the National Meteorological Agency, nighttime temperatures can drop to 10 degrees below zero in some parts of Castilla y León.
On Saturday, snowfall is expected in the north-west of the country, in Extremadura and in western Castile-La Mancha and in eastern Andalusia. But only on Sunday, when a new Arctic air mass is expected to enter, will temperatures drop sharply. It is expected to snow lightly throughout the north of the peninsula that day, although not too heavily. Local heavy rainfall is expected in the area of the strait.
Frost is forecast for Saturday in mountainous areas, which will spread to much of the interior of the country on Sunday. Heavy frosts are expected in the Pyrenees. On Sunday the wind will freshen up in the Ampurdán, in the Pyrenees region and in the Ebro Valley.
The Canary Islands will see light and occasional rainfall throughout the weekend on the larger islands. Temperatures are unlikely to change until Sunday, when they are expected to rise.
In large parts of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, noticeable temperature drops are expected on Monday, which will continue on Tuesday, albeit less pronounced. There will be widespread frosts on the peninsula, except in the coastal areas and the extreme south-west. These frosts will be more intense in the northern half of the peninsula and in the Andalusian mountain ranges, and more severe in the Iberian system and in the Pyrenees.

The maximum temperatures will also be very low and will not exceed five degrees in large parts of the northern half. The wind will come predominantly from the north and north-west, more intense in the north-east quadrant of the Peninsula and Balearic Islands, where very strong gusts could be reached, causing an additional decrease in thermal sensitivity. This wind will gradually lose strength on Tuesday and Wednesday, except in the Balearic Islands, where it could continue to affect northern Mallorca and Menorca.
