An American real estate management company is planning to put its own spin on the creation of a Costco department store in Los Angeles, as it plans to build around 800 apartments above the store’s roof.
In a statement, Thrive Living says the initiative to build housing units on top of a Costco would be a world first.
The housing crisis is hitting California hard, where home prices are very high. Many citizens have no choice but to live on the streets or in their cars.
“Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said there was an urgent housing crisis, so we followed the call,” said Jordan Brill, a real estate agency representative.
He claims to want to offer housing to all sections of the population in California. In fact, almost every fourth unit will be affordable.
In addition to the planned 800 apartments, the company Thrive Living wants to build a pharmacy and a fresh food kiosk near Costco.
A representative of a local organization is pleased that such a project is progressing.
“This is great news for us. We’re excited about the idea of having a quality living environment and taking advantage of Costco,” says Brenda Ashby.
