Dominique Anglade’s party this morning unveiled its candidate Dominic Cardinal in hopes of recapturing Louis-Hébert in western Québec City, long owned by former Liberal minister Sam Hamad.
Since 2017, the riding has belonged to the Avenir Québec coalition, which was won in a by-election by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Safety Genviève Guilbault. She was easily re-elected in the 2018 election with 44.6% of the vote and more than 6,500 votes ahead of Liberal Julie-Maude Perron.
This year, the PLQ hopes Dominic Cardinal, 36, who has a degree in business administration, can turn the tide.
However, the challenge is likely to be great, while the forecasts place the PLQ in a good 3rd place behind the CAQ (46%) and the Conservatives (23%) in riding.
The website Quebec 125, which compiles all polling data in Quebec, points out that the PLQ has collected a meager 12% in the county at the moment. This is a historic low.
Mr Cardinal ran for Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures in the last municipal elections. He attempted to run for city council in the Du Lac Borough but was defeated.
