A US Air Force aircraft, with one on board US Senate delegation, landed in Taipei less than two weeks after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s mission. This was reported by the American Institute in Taiwan, the de facto American embassy.
The leadership of the delegation is Democratic Senator Ed Markey. With him are Democratic Representatives John Garamendi, Alan Lowenthal and Don Beyer, and Republican Representative Aumua Amata Coleman Radewagen.
During the mission, which ends August 15 and is part of a larger visit to the Indo-Pacific, the delegation will hold high-level meetings in Taipei for briefings bilateral relations and regional security.
The visit of Hairy in Taiwan 12 days ago, it provoked the sharp Chinese reaction, which considers the island an “inalienable” part of its territory, and launched large-scale exercises of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) around Taiwan.
