He quickly called the police to report him missing.
Several patrol cars set out to locate the stolen car. A few minutes passed when two patrol officers located them at the intersection of 13th Avenue North and King Street East.
When the vehicle saw police, it accelerated and entered the parking lot at 925 King Street East. During his maneuver, the suspect vehicle crashed into the building before coming to a stop. The driver fled the area on foot. Other patrol officers arrived to assist and caught up with the person to arrest him.
The 26-year-old man, known to police, was transported to the police station. He will appear later in the day on Tuesday to answer charges of vehicle theft, fleeing police, dangerous driving and breaching conditions, including a nationwide driving ban.
Extreme speeding on Highway 10
At around 9 a.m. Saturday morning, Sûreté du Québec police officers from the Estrie highway station intercepted a vehicle speeding on Highway 10 in Sherbrooke toward Montreal. The driver, a 20-year-old young man from Sherbrooke, was traveling at a speed of 182 km/h in a zone where the speed limit is 100 km/h. The latter received a ticket worth a total of $1,555 and 18 demerit points. His driving license was revoked for a period of seven days in accordance with the Road Safety Regulations.
